Boys Basketball Roundup: Bellaire, Harrison, Ferry pick up wins

BELLAIRE — The homesteading Big Reds demonstrated impressive resolve Saturday night in bouncing back from a tough Friday loss to rival St. Clairsville to fend off Monroe Central, 57-49.

Bellaire owned a 10-point lead at halftime and the Seminoles got as close as two in the fourth, but the Big Reds were able to answer each time Monroe made a run.

The return of junior Jaren Cash to the lineup after he missed a couple of games due to injury paid dividends. He scored a game-high 20 points. Senior David Zwack added 13 and junior Owen Ward added 10.

Monroe was led by Malachi Rose-Burton, who scored 14, and Garet Cramer, who finished with 12.

Harrison Central 48, River 45

HANNIBAL — Invading Harrison used a strong fourth quarter to post a cherished road victory against River.

Senior standout Kobe Mitchell was once again impressive. He scored 31 of the Huskies points and was the lone player in double figures.

River was led by sophomore Ty Long’s 17. Classmate Brody Lollathin added nine points.

Martins Ferry 34, Indian Creek 32

MARTINS FERRY — The Purple Riders (5-6) made it two wins in as many days with a hard-earned victory against the Redskins Saturday afternoon.

Fresh off scoring his 1,000th career point, Ferry senior Logan Smith led the Riders again, netting 18.

Indian Creek was led by Isaiah Vandine’s 12 points.

Toronto 73, Bridgeport 61

TORONTO — The visiting Bulldogs dropped to 8-7 on the season with the 12-point loss to the Red Knights.

Senior Dylan Gregorcic continued his fine play, scoring 20 points. Seniors Cooper Dulesky and Reise O’Kernik added 17 and 12 points, respectively.

Toronto was led by Brent Reeves and Blake Close who went for 21 and 14 points, respectively.

East Liverpool 62, St. Clairsville 56

EAST LIVERPOOL — In a rematch of the 2020 Buckeye 8 championship game, the Red Devils suffered a similar result. They found themselves on the short end of a 62-56 reading.

St. Clairsville (6-6) maintained a 34-25 lead at the half and a two-point advantage entering the final chapter. However, the Potters outscored the Devils 18-10 in the final period.

The Red Devils were led by junior Ryan McCort, who tossed in 26. Will Balgo added 11.

The Potters were paced by Devin Toothman’s 26. Cole Dailey added 13.
