Union Local sweeps three duals at Shadyside Quad

Union Local’s Nathaniel Gibson secures the right arm of Harrison Central’s Gabe Marbais during their 138-pound match Thursday at the Shadyside Quad. Gibson won by pin.

SHADYSIDE — The last few wrestling seasons have not been ones that Union Local will have vivid flashbacks of, but Thursday night the Jets were spotless at the Shadyside Quad. The Jets went 3-0 inside the Tigers Den.

“I wouldn’t say we’re peaking quite yet, but we are getting into a groove,” Union Local head coach Zack Powell said. “We’re getting into the busy part of our schedule right now, so we’ll see how things go from here.”

Union Local defeated Southern Local, 43-22, Harrison Central, 53-34, and Shadyside, 42-22.

In the win over the Indians, Clay Akers (126), Logan Boone (132) and Aidan Myers (160) recorded pins, while Brody Myers (145) and Claude Romshak (170) earned decisions.

Against the Huskies, Akers, Nathaniel Gibson (138), Brody Myers, Landon Crum (152) all won by falls.

“Nathaniel got a little revenge with his win against Harrison Central,” Powell said. The (Gabe) Marbais kid beat Nathaniel last year at the OVAC Ron Mauck Tournament to place and Nathaniel didn’t. That was a good win for him.”

Romshak had a pin against the Tigers.

Harrison Central took down short-handed Shadyside, 48-29, as Michael Smith (170) and Dillon Drapp (285) registered falls.

Smith and Lucas Thomas (220) had pins against the Huskies.

Harrison Central and Southern Local did not wrestle each other.

Shadyside, which only had six wrestlers dressed, had a pair of individuals win three matches. They were Andrew Osman (145) and Brendon Schrader (152). Osman recorded two decisions and a pin while Schrader had a major decision and a pair of falls.

The Indians defeated the Tigers, 36-21.
