Martins Ferry girls bounce back; St. C. girls, BL boys win

MARTINS FERRY — Bounce-back wins are nice. Martins Ferry needed one.

The Purple Riders outscored visiting Barnesville 23-5 in the second quarter Friday night and cruised to a 69-35 girls basketball victory in Tolbert Gymnasium. The hosts were coming off a loss to Steubenville Catholic on Wednesday.

Maria Clark paced the winners with 22 points. Danielle Lude added a dozen and Eve Agnew had 10. Allarah Jones chipped in with eight.

Ellie Thompson led the Shamrocks with 11 points. Blayne Carpenter and Aya McFarland evenly divided 12.

Indian Valley 43

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Red Devils picked up a solid win Friday, toppling the Braves in a tuneup for a rematch with them on Wednesday in the Division II sectional.

St. Clairsville was led by Megan Malin’s 21. Macy Malin and Alexis Thoburn each had 12.

Worthington Christian 78, Union Local 62

WORTHINGTON — Casey Kildow fired in five three-point goals en route to 24 points and Torre Kildow added 17 as the Jets fell on the road.

Kiera Gregor had 11 for Union Local and Reagan Vinskovich seven.

BOYS

Buckeye Local 84,

Edison 50

RICHMOND — The Panthers (9-6) won for the second straight outing, posting a rout of the struggling Wildcats.

Buckeye Local owned a 29-13 lead after one and never looked back.

Senior Jake Mayle pumped in 32 points to lead everyone. Cameron Best donated 13.

The Wildcats were led by Gage Cline’s 26.

Steubenville Catholic 56, Monroe Central 53

WOODSFIELD — Steubenville Catholic Central made the long trip to Woodsfield worthwhile by pulling out a hard-earned victory over the Seminoles, who have now lost three straight and are 12-6 on the season

The Crusaders were led by Charles Miller’s 19 points. Ryan Gorman netted 11, while Andrew Dorsey and Vance Carapellotti evenly divided 20.

Monroe Central, which didn’t shoot a foul shot in the game, was led by junior Malachi Rose-Burton’s 18. Luke Burkhart hit five treys en route to 15 and Auston Hogue added 10.

BARNESVILLE — The Shamrocks bounced back from a disappointing performance at the Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Association Division III State Duals with a pair of victories Friday night.

Crum Wins 100th

SHENANDOAH — Union Local’s Brady Crum won his 100th career match Friday night.
