W.Va linebackers will play key role vs. Ohio in OVAC ASG

With Ohio expected to be a run-oriented team, West Virginia head coach B.J. Depew expects his linebackers to play a key role next Saturday in the OVAC Rudy Mumley All-Star Football Game.

Depew believes he and his staff have the pieces to match up with the Buckeye State on the second level of their defense.

“We have some real talent in kids who are multiple-year starters,” Depew said. “We have a couple of team-leading tackler guys and most are two-way players.”

Here’s a capsule look at the players:

JASON BEISEL, Magnolia — This former Blue Eagle shined on both sides of the ball for Coach Dave Chapman’s team.

Jason is the son of Ryan and Dawn Yeater.

DEACAN CARMICHAEL, Cameron — This former Dragon had a key role on both sides of the ball for head coach Tim Brown’s team.

Deacan is the son of Philip Carmichael and Robyn Bidwell.

STEVE FELTON, Linsly — This former Cadet was an impact player for Depew’s team as both a linebacker and fullback.

The 6-foot, 225 pounder rushed for 468 yards and 10 touchdowns in his career. He also caught 18 passes for 214 yards. Defensively, he posted 126 solo tackles and 263 career stops. As a senior, he averaged 14.5 tackles a game.

Felton was named his team’s defensive MVP, All-OVAC and received the coaches award as a senior.

Along with athletics, Felton is a standout in the classroom as a member of the National Honor Society.

Steve, who is the son of Jack and Rhonda Felton, plans to attend Duquesne University.

DRAKE HUKILL, Brooke — This former Bruin impacted the games in a bevy of ways for Coach Mac McLean’s team.

The 5-9, 180 pounder played running back primarily for the Bruins and earned four letters.

Along with football, he lettered twice in track and field.

Away from sports, he’s a member of the principal’s list and has completed both the carpentry and electrical program. He’s also active in the community through coaching youth sports and promoting Autism Awareness.

Drake, who plans to attend Bethany College, is the son of Curt and Katherine Hukill.

SILAS MCKEEVER, Magnolia — This former Blue Eagles played four different positions for Coach Chapman’s squad.

The 6-foot, 200 pounder was named All-OVAC after spending time at quarterback, running back, linebacker and tight end.

Silas plans to attend Fairmont State.

CODY POE, Hundred — This former Hornet put forth an impressive career in playing for Coach D.J. Byrd’s team.

The 6-1, 210 pounder posted 415 tackles, 12 sacks and forced eight fumbles in his career. He also scored 10 touchdowns and had 210 receiving yards.

Twice, Poe was named to the All-State Honorable Mention team. He was twice an All-Mason Dixon Team pick as well as an All-OVAC team.

Cody, who plans to enlist in the United States Army, is the D.J. and Betsy Byrd.
