St. C. swimmers debut with tie, loss vs. Linsly

WHEELING — St. Clairsville opened its swimming season with a meet at Linsly. The Red Devils and Cadet girls tied with 78 points each, while the Linsly boys prevailed, 96-59.

St. Clairsville senior Casadie DiBetta was a double individual winner. She claimed the 100 fly in 1:01.37 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.54.

Classmate Kylie McKeegan was the winner in both the 50 and 100 freestyles, posting times of 26.07 and 59.45, respectively.

The Red Devils also won the 200 medley and 200 free relays.

On the boys’ side, Linsly’s Lorenzo Serotino won the 100 and 200 freestyles.

St. Clairsville’s lone boys winners were Zach May (50 free), Evan Yost (100 backstroke) and Jack Gasber (100 breast).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Cambridge 54, St. Clairsville 52

CAMBRIDGE — St. Clairsville’s fourth-quarter rally came up two points short during Monday’s season opener inside the Gene Ford Gymnasium.

The Red Devils had no answer for Camryn Gebhardt, who pumped in a game-high 28.

The Red Devils were paced by senior Shae Brookover’s 18 and Megan Malin’s 17.

Beallsville 56, Barnesville 28

BARNESVILLE — Invading Beallsville raced out to an 11-point lead at halftime and never looked back en route to the 56-28 victory.

The Blue Devils (2-2) were led by Hallie Bommer’s 14. Kaylee Hagan added 13.

Barnesville (1-3) was led by Lilly Welch and Alyssa Carter. Each had nine.

Frontier 44, River 37

BEAVERTON — Homestanding Frontier proved to be a little too much for the invading Pilots.

The third quarter proved to be the difference. The Cougars outscored the Pilots, 16-9 to take control.

Frontier was led by Megan Haught’s 15 and Grace Knowlton’s 14.

River (0-2) was led by sophomore Kelsey Harlan’s 13.

Southern Local 74,

Bridgeport 16

SALINEVILLE — Invading Bridgeport proved to be no match for the Indians, who cruised to victory.

Southern Local was led by Ashley Shroades, who poured in 36. Kennedy Lewis added 15 points, six rebounds and three steals.

Bridgeport was led by Hailee Aubrey’s six.

Harrison Central 48,

Buckeye Local 35

CONNORVILLE — Harrison Central bounced back from its first setback to take down Buckeye Local, 48-35.

Senior standout McKayla Dunkle led the Huskies with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Junior Maddy Butler added 14 points and six assists.

The Panthers (0-2) were led by Emily Valuska, Pam Kandrach and Adrianna Blazeski. The trio evenly divided 24 points.
