Tyler Consolidated stuns host Magnolia

NEW MARTINSVILLE — Tyler Consolidated scored five times in the top of the seventh to stun host Magnolia, 12-8, Monday in high school baseball action.

Nate Deaton drove in four runs with a single and double for the Silver Knights (13-12). Colby Nichols singled twice and knocked in three runs, while Brayden Neff singled twice, drove in a run and picked up the win in relief.

Joseph Mason knocked in three runs for the Blue Eagles. Nrayden Byers had a two-run single.

Wheeling Park 7,

Fairmont Sr. 6, 6 inn.

WHEELING — The Patriots built an early lead and then held off the visiting Polar Bears before lightning ended things after six innings.

Nolan Yanchak singled in two runs to lead Wheeling Park, which also received an RBI double from Paul McGee. Ryland Robb singled in a run and Kolten Whitmire had two singles.

Robb struck out five and walked five to earn the win. Coldin Burkhart picked up the save.

Union Local 10,

Monroe Central 0

MORRISTOWN — Bralon Akers tossed a two-hit shutout as the Jets blanked the visiting Seminoles in five innings. Akers struck out eight and didn’t walk a batter. He threw 59 pitches, 43 of which were strikes.

Bill Schumacher rapped a single and double to drive in a run. Peyton Causby and Karson Grigatis each singled in two runs and Hayden Jenkins and Brody Gregor delivered RBI singles.

Wheeling Central 7, Brooke 0

WELLSBURG — The Maroon Knights found a steady rhythm on offense while keeping the Bruins off the scoreboard Monday.

Central scored one run in the third inning before spotting two runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth inning each.

Koy Lipinski cracked a pair of hits and scored twice, as did Zayne Rosnick. Brady Ernest drove in a game-high three RBI. Wheeling Central drew 11 walks as a team.

Brayden Cover limited Brooke to a single hit over seven innings, striking out nine in the win.

SOFTBALL

Magnolia 13, Beallsville 2

BEALLSVILLE — The Blue Eagles delivered on Monday in a five-inning victory over the Blue Devils.

Mallory McDiffitt excelled inside the circle and in the batter’s box, pitching the full game with seven strikeouts. She also doubled and totaled three hits and three RBI.

Jessa Anderson also tallied multiple hits, reaching four times with two singles and two walks. Sienna McKeever totaled two RBI, as did Bella Sockman and Olivia Hohman.

Karly Showalter drove in a runner for Beallsville.

BASEBALL

Wheeling Park 10, Brooke 5

WELLSBURG — Jaxon Updegraff singled three times and drove in a like number of runs as the Patriots doubled up the Bruins. Nate Simon singled and homered, also driving in a trio of runs. Kolten Whitmire singled, doubled and knocked in two runs.

Gino Provenzano singled twice and drove in two runs for the Bruins.

SOFTBALL

Wheeling Park 17, Edison 16

WHEELING — Wheeling Central scored a dozen runs in the fourth inning to stockpile enough of a lead to survive the Wildcats’ own offensive output on Saturday.

Bryn Ernest, Delaney Randolph and London Fankhouser each homered for Park, while Isabelle Thomas doubled. Fankhouser finished with three RBI, as did Grace Tamburin, while Randolph had two RBI.

Either team committed three errors.
