Deputy: 1 dead, 1 injured in apparent maintenance accident
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — One man died and another was injured Monday morning when they became trapped under a dump truck, officials said.
Rescue crews were called to Jimmy Dunn Excavating in Charleston around 8 a.m., officials told news outlets. One man died at the scene and another man was taken to the hospital, Kanawha County Sheriff’s Sgt. Brian Humphreys said.
The two men were doing maintenance work on the bed of a dump truck, which was being lifted by an excavator when heavy equipment fell and trapped them, officials said.
It appears to be a maintenance accident, Humphreys said. He did not release the names of the workers.
Deputies and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration were investigating.
