OUE now offering applied management degree

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – Ohio University Eastern has added the Bachelor of Science in Applied Management degree (BSAM) to its’ growing list of Ohio University bachelor’s degrees available to students entirely at the local campus.

The Bachelor of Science in Applied Management program provides students with the business knowledge and critical thinking skills that are necessary to prepare them for a range of career fields and which are especially valued in the current marketplace. The degree is especially tailored for individuals who have already earned an associate degree and who are returning to college to improve their career prospects. It also is applicable for students starting college who are seeking a flexible bachelor’s degree program that provides them with a well-rounded management background to allow them to advance in any organization.

The BSAM complements the Bachelor of Technical and Applied Studies (BTAS) and Bachelor of Specialized Studies (BSS) degrees already offered at Ohio University Eastern.

The BTAS program is designed for students who have already earned an associate degree in a technical field, while the BSS program allows students to design personalized degree programs that meet their career goals.

“Offering the BSAM degree allows Ohio University Eastern to better serve students and the local community by providing a degree program that is especially applicable in today’s changing and competitive workplace,” said Ohio University Eastern Dean Richard Greenlee. “Management degrees are useful in a number of careers, and the Eastern Campus now offers several options to meet the varied needs of our students and community.”

The BSAM program was developed in collaboration with the Ohio University College of Business, which offers nationally-recognized business programs. Further, it is a pathway to the College’s MBA program, meeting educational requirements for graduates who successfully meet admissions criteria.

The Eastern Campus program is spearheaded by Michael Schor, a faculty member who teaches finance, accounting and management. “The BSAM is a wonderful program for OUE and the local community,” he said. “I am most excited by the fact that our students will gain valuable practical experience and be able to contribute to the community through the internship portion of the program.”

Barnesville Hospital CEO David Phillips can personally attest to the results. “We are very pleased with the energy and talent displayed by our student interns from Ohio University Eastern. They are doing a great job and I would recommend them to anyone.”

Schor is predicting that the BSAM program is destined for great heights at the Eastern Campus. “I envision a program that will enable our graduates to move into positions of responsibility, positively impacting the region’s economy and ultimately, becoming a source of pride for Ohio University and the Eastern Campus,” Schor said.
