ST. CLAIRSVILLE -- Plenty of plaudits were doled out this week at the monthly meeting of the St. Clairsville-Richland City Board of Education.
The gathering began with board members recognizing Sarah Steele for being honored as the Ohio Daughters of the American Revolution Outstanding Teacher of American History. Steele received the award March 25 in Columbus.
"She is an outstanding teacher that goes above and beyond to bring history into the classroom," Superintendent Walt Skaggs said. "To say this award is well-deserved is an understatement."
The board also lauded district Treasurer Amy Porter and her assistants -- Betty Milhoan and Valerie Lachendro -- for exemplary financial reporting for 2016.
Members of the St. Clairsville cheering squad were on hand to be recognized for capturing their fifth OASSA Division III Non-Mount state championship.
Skaggs updated the board on fundraisers for student Dominic Alexander. He said the elementary raised more than $7,500 through Shaving Shenanigans, while students in kindergarten through fourth grade participated in the Kohl's Cares ''Dominate the Walk'' event, raising another $2,700. Finally, the High School Action Committee raised $23,370 with its "Dominate Cancer" T-shirt sale and purple-out day.
The board accepted resignations, both effective June 1, of two workers with a combined 77 years in the district. Nancy Pramik, a cafeteria worker, leaves after 38 years, while Richard ''Woody'' Stidd steps away after 39 years with the district.
The board also approved all high school, middle school and elementary certified staff to serve as tutors at a rate of $18 per hour for the 2017-18 school year, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Akron to provide instructional services to qualifying students for next school year.
Payment of $180 to Laura Denning for athletic training services at the Porterfield Invitational was approved.
The board accepted the following donations to the Class of 2020 during March -- Jeannine Shaw, $20; Kevin Klinkoski, $30; Lesley Naylor, $50; Heidi & Matthew Palmer, $25; Robin Sefscik, $20; James & Margaret Patrizi, $25; Precision Anesthesia Services, LLC, $100; David & Sharon Marconi, $20; Ronnie Jaquez, $40; Christopher & Nichole Ponzani, $100; Douglas & Cathy Wolfe, $20; and Suzanne and David Muncy, $40.
Other donations made during the month involved: The Saints Club, (athletic department, $8,000); Chipotle Mexican Grill (high school softball, $460.59); Flying S. Wings Inc. (high school softball, $255); Jacob & Sons Quality Meats (weight room account, $425); AT&T employee giving program (high school principal account, $20); Novo Nordisk Charity-Jeffrey Smith (high school principal account, $250); and Bonnie & Kendall Krock (Class of 2024, $20).
The next board meeting is at 7 a.m. May 10 at 7 a.m. at the board office.
