WHEELING -- Wheeling Hospital and its affiliates, Belmont Community Hospital (BCH), Harrison Community Hospital (HCH) and Bishop Joseph Hodges Continuous Care Center, have planned a variety of activities in observance of National Nurses Week, May 6-12, including the presentation of excellence awards.
National Nurses Week focuses attention on the diverse ways America's nurses work to save lives and to improve the health of millions of individuals. The American Nurses Association has designated 2017 as the "Year of the Healthy Nurse," and the theme for this year's Nurses Week is "Nursing: the Balance of Mind, Body, and Spirit." It's all about celebrating nurses who lead the charge for health and wellness.
Wheeling Hospital Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Kathy Stahl said, "At all of our facilities, our nurses' daily commitment to our patients demonstrates perfectly why we honor each and every one of them. We could not be more grateful for their devotion and dedication as they work to save lives and improve the health of our communities. There is not another group of professionals with whom I'd rather work."
At BCH, Director of Nursing Darla Kuri said, "I am grateful to have worked with some of the very best role models who truly advocate health, safety and wellness. In celebration of Nurses Week 2017, we will focus on the balance of mind, body and spirit. Special thanks to Belmont Community Hospital nurses for their commitment to providing excellent patient care. Their dedication to the community and patient satisfaction is commendable.
Janis Olinski, vice president of Clinical Services at HCH, said, "Nurses Week 2017 focuses on the balance of mind, body, and spirit. These three things come together to give us identity, determine our health, and make us who we are.
No one understands this more than a nurse, who selflessly and without hesitation attends to the needs of the whole person. Every person. Every day.
"Working in a small community here in Harrison County, you get the opportunity to develop relationships with your patients. The quality of care and compassion our nurses provide gives our patients comfort knowing they can seek quality health care close to home. Nursing is a demanding and, at times, thankless job, so we look forward to any opportunity we have to recognize the hard work and dedication of our staff.
This Nurses Week we praise our nurses for their dedication and love of giving of themselves for the sake of others."
Among the events planned at the facilities to honor nurses are special breakfasts, luncheons, ice cream socials, gifts, decorating contests and dessert days.
At the annual Nurse Excellence Program on May 10, awards will be presented to nurses from Wheeling Hospital, BCH, HCH and the CCC.
