WHEELING -- With fall sports season just around the corner, Dr. Enoch Chang, director of Wheeling Hospital's Sports Medicine Center, is planning this year's Saturday Sports Clinics.
Chang has participated in providing sports medicine for the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Cleveland Indians, Notre Dame College, Baldwin Wallace University, John Carroll University and Cleveland State University. In addition, he has provided medical aid to athletes participating in the numerous national sporting events.
From 9 a.m. to noon every Saturday beginning Aug. 26, Chang will see patients at his office in Tower 1, Suite 206, of the hospital. Appointments are not necessary. The intent of the clinics is to treat acute injuries in high school and college sports, including football, soccer, cheerleading and cross country.
"We want to be there for the community and provide excellent care for athletes who may have suffered an injury late in the week that doesn't quite warrant a visit to the ER but shouldn't be delayed all weekend to be diagnosed and treated," Chang said. "The majority of injuries will likely be football-related, but all athletes are welcome."
Chang's regular office hours are 8 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. Monday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. To make an appointment, call 304-243-8630.
In addition to the Saturday Sports Clinic, Wheeling Hospital continues to conduct concussion testing through its ImPACT program. The program monitors the status and recovery of anyone suffering a concussive-type head injury.
It is the same program used by the NFL and the National Hockey League, as well as many colleges and high schools nationwide.
The test data, along with the clinical evaluation, helps assist in the "return-to-play" decision-making process for each individual, as opposing to following a national guideline.
