Arrest is made in prostitution case

1 min read

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – A Cadiz woman is currently being held in the Belmont County Jail after she was arrested on three separate counts of compelling prostitution involving minors.

Robin Newell, 32, of 145 West Warren St., was taken into custody on Aug. 17 following an investigation by authorities in both Belmont and Harrison counties according to Belmont County Prosecutor Chris Berhalter.

“This is an ongoing investigation,” Berhalter said. “Once it is complete, all the evidence will be presented to the grand jury for consideration.”

Because the investigation is continuing, Berhalter did not elaborate further on the case. However, reports have indicated Newell is facing charges related to what investigators have described as “prostituting children.” There has been no indication as to the ages of the minor or minors. Available information did not say if the alleged prostitution was for drugs or money.

Newell made an initial appearance in Belmont County Northern Division Court where bond was set at $30,000. She will appear for a preliminary hearing Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.
