Tire collection slated?Saturday

THE JB GREEN Team and the Pultney Township trustees announced a tire collection involving Belmont County and Jefferson County residents is scheduled Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the old Swift Brick and Stone Building, located at 1 Commerce Parkway, Bellaire.

Due to the high disposal costs, it will be necessary to charge participants $1 per tire fee with a limit of 10 tires per load, and payment is to be by cash only. Accepted will be passenger car and light truck tires.

It is requested there be no tires with rims. Semi and tractor tires will not be accepted.

No other items will be collected at this event.

Y hosting Cosmic Bingo Friday

COSMIC BINGO is planned Friday at the YWCA Wheeling, 1100 Chapline St., Wheeling, and an extra surprise is planned for those in costume. Activities will begin at 6:30 p.m. with bingo at 7. The doors/snack bar will open at 5 p.m.

Included the event will be “glow in the dark,” dancing and music, pull tabs and Halloween Minute to Win It games/prizes. Twelve games will involve paying out $100-$300 per game. A $30 package includes everything needed to play bingo – glow dauber, sticks and accessories. Individuals must be at least 18 years old to play bingo.

OPWC meeting set Thursday

THE OHIO Public Works Commission County subcommittee will meet Thursday at 2:30 p.m., in the commissioners’ office at the Belmont County Courthouse in St. Clairsville.

The subcommittee members include County Engineer Fred Bennett, County Commissioner, Matt Coffland, Richland Township Trustee Greg Bizzarri, Mayor Mark McVey of Powhatan Point and, a fifth person to be appointed at this meeting.

In addition to selecting the fifth member, the purpose of this meeting is to prioritize the applications received from Belmont County applying for funding in Round 29 from OPWC. This meeting is open to the public.

Wells Township seniors to meet

WELLS Township will hold its monthly senior citizens meeting on Friday at 1 p.m at the Wells Township Community/Senior Center on Steuben Street, Brilliant.

Bridgeport BPA to meet Wednesday

THE BRIDGEPORT Board of Trustees of Public Affairs, is having a special meeting to discuss personnel on Wednesday at the water plant at 6 p.m.

As of Oct. 1, water rates increased 10 percent. The minimum water rate raised from $24.75 to $27.24 a month.

Fulton?Hill Road to close

FULTON Hill Road will be closed to all traffic on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, between 8 a.m and 5 p.m. at a location 0.75 mile east of Ohio 147, Key Bellaire Road. The road is being closed by American Electric Power to construct a tower.

St.?C. Coat Closet now open

The St. Clairsville Community Coat Closet opened for the season on Oct.16. Located in the basement of the First Presbyterian Church, 110 S Marietta Street, St. Clairsville, the coat closet has a good supply of warm coats, hats and scarves for all ages. It also have a limited supply of new children’s shoes, as well as shoes in men’s sizes 8-13. All those from the Belmont County area in need of coats or shoes are welcome.

This will be the 5th year for this local mission project. Staffed totally by volunteers from among the church members and housed in the church basement, the mission does not have overhead expenses. Donations of new or gently used coats, new hats, scarves, and gloves, and new children’s athletic shoes in all sizes are always welcome. 100% of cash donations are used to purchase needed sizes.

The coat closet is open on Thursdays 1:00-3:00 and other times can be scheduled by calling the church office at 695-0690.

Dinner to benefit transplant patient

A SPAGHETTI dinner benefit will be held for Judy Jackson on Sunday, from 4 to 6 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, National Road, Bridgeport.

Dinners are $7 which includes spaghetti with meat sauce, salad, roll and coffee or water. Pop and desserts will be available at an additional charge. Bake sale and 50/50 raffle will be held. Judy is waiting for a double lung transplant.

WT Lions holding cleanup

THE WARREN Township Lions Club’s “Adopt a Highway” cleanup is scheduled Saturday, and volunteers are needed.

Volunteers are to meet at 8:45 a.m. at Warren Township Park, and the cleaning will be done from the Rayland exit of Ohio 7 to the Yorkville exit. The volunteers are asked to bring their own gloves.

Lunch will be provided after the cleanup is completed.

Project Manna sign-ups set

Ohio?Valley Mall hosting fall fest

THE Ohio Valley Mall will host its annual Halloween Costume Party and Fall Festival on Saturday, from noon to 2:30 p.m. at Center Court. Children 13 and under are invited to come in costume, participate in fun Halloween activities, visit informational booths and sign the Captain McFinn Anti-Bully Pledge.

Revival on tap in?Rayland

RAYLAND – Mark Hoobler, who has been involved in mission work in Africa, will speak during a revival tonight, Saturday and Sunday at the Rush Run Community Chapel, located at 1983 County Road 17, Rayland, off Ohio 7.

The Sunday service will be at 11 a.m. while the other services will begin at 7 p.m.

The Rev. James A. Monogioudis said Hoobler has been to Kenya and the Congo. He helped to establish three Bible colleges in the Congo and 12 churches in Africa. He also helps with clinics and hospitals.

The services are open to the public.

Haunting At LA?Youth Camp slated

Church holding sale Saturday

A YARD Sale will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18 from 8 a.m. at the Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church, 53760 National Road, U.S. 40, Blaine.

There will be all kinds of items including jewelry, household items, etc. The sale will take place in the basement of the church. There is ample parking in the lot behind the church located at the bottom of the Blaine Viaduct.

Water authority to flush hydrants

THE Tri County Water Authority will flush fire hydrants beginning Monday. They will be flushing the entire system in Colerain, Pleasant Grove, Harrisville and Adena areas. Customers may experience low water pressure and discolored water.

Bridgeport?Council to meet Tuesday

THE VILLAGE of Bridgeport will be holding its regularly scheduled council meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 6 p.m., in the Bridgeport Municipal Building.

Cadet applications sought

THE CADET CORPS of the Barton Volunteer Fire Department is accepting new members to join them. The corps was organized in 1959. Its purpose is to learn how to be a public servant, learn first aid, CPR, learn about the equipment on the fire engines, how to use the equipment, and assist in maintaining the trucks and equipment.

The Cadets also do many fundraising projects for the fire department, and over the years have donated several thousands of dollars. Many of them become firefighters when they turn 18 years old.

The cadets will hold a meeting on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 6 p.m. at the firehouse in Barton. Pizza and soft drinks will be served. Following each meeting, there is a training session in numerous topics.

Ferry cheering event set?Friday

Girls who participated in the 2014 Martins Ferry Cheer Camp are invited to cheer at the home game this Friday, Oct. 17.

Please be at the field by 5 p.m. Your child will be dismissed after the football players enter the field.

Parents are to pick up their child at the main entrance gate.

Girls must wear their Cheer Camp shirts to be admitted into the game for free and are being advised to dress warmly.

Township association to meet

THE Belmont County Township Association will hold a meeting on Thursday, Oct 16, at 6 p.m at the Belmont County Emergency Operations Center, on Bannock Road, off Ohio 331, west of St. Clairsville.

St. C. plans hydrant flow testing

The City of St. Clairsville will be flow testing two hydrants in the downtown area Thursday at 6 a.m.

THE PULTNEY Township Board of Trustees will be holding a special meeting on Thursday, at 9 a.m., in the Belmont County Prosecutor’s Office for the purpose of completing a transaction to purchase a 2014 truck through the United States Department of Agriculture.

No other business will be conducted at this special meeting.

The trustees will then hold their regular meeting on Thursday at noon in the township garage office.

Belmont County roads closing

TWO BELMONT County roads will be closed to all traffic at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, according to word from the county engineering department.

Hawthorn Hill Road will be closed from the intersection of Wegee Road, north for a distance of 5,000 feet. The road will be closed until Friday, Oct. 17, for work being done for an electrical substation project.

Pugh Ridge Road will be closed for two days. It wll be closed at the intersection of the railroad which is 450 feet south of Ohio 148.

Work is being done on the railroad crossing.

Dillonvale council to meet Oct. 15

THE Dillonvale Village Council meeting has been rescheduled from Oct. 13 to Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m. It will be held in the municipal building.

SERO meeting planned Oct. 22

The next meeting of School Employee Retirees of Ohio (SERO) Chapter 33, which includes the counties of Jefferson, Belmont, Harrison and Monroe will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 10 a.m. in the meeting room of the Schiappa Branch of the Public Library of Steubenville (next to Lowes) 4141 Mall Drive, Steubenville.

COUNTY ROAD 6, (Dillonvale-Longrun Road), approximately 200 feet from the intersection of County Road 7 and County Road 6, Mt. Pleasant-Adena Road, will be closed today and will remain closed until 5 p.m . on Friday, Oct. 24. I

It is being closed for a bridge replacement project. There will be no thru traffic at that point.

COLERAIN — A Pet Blessing will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini church in Colerain. Bring your pet to be blessed by Fr. Tim McGuire. The event will take place behind the church, rain or shine.
