HOLLOWAY -- Firefighters and other first responders were called out late Thursday afternoon to a house fire on Reddington Hill Road in the center of Holloway.
No one was hurt, but the house and a nearby car were ruled total losses.
"Everyone got out. They got two dogs out there, they got the dogs to the vets," Lori Mann, squad captain with Flushing Fire Department, said.
"They're not certain (what happened)," she said of the residents. "They were cooking on the front porch on the grill and the fire started. They're not sure where it came from. It was fully engulfed when we got on scene."
Firefighters worked on containing the flames. Mann said there was no danger to the surrounding area.
"We're just basically hitting hot spots," Flushing Fire Chief Bob Eberhart said. "Everything's pretty much knocked down."
"The car was involved also," Flushing Fire Capt. Preston Eberhart added. "We've been purely defensive the entire time. We couldn't make entry with it, so right now we've got the bulk of the fire knocked down."
First responders from Flushing, Moorefield, Holloway, Lafferty, the Cumberland Trail Fire District, Barnesville, Freeport, Bethesda, and the Belmont County Tanker Task Force all responded. The Salvation Army also arrived with its canteen truck to provide food and water to keep the firefighters hydrated.
Bob Eberhart said there was no indication of the blaze's cause. The Ohio State Fire Marshal's Office will investigate.
