CADIZ -- The Harrison Metropolitan Housing Authority has earned the Ohio Auditor of State Award for the sixth consecutive year, recognizing the agency for excellence in financial reporting and accountability.

The award was presented to Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer Debra K. Yeater by Stephen Cicak, Southeast regional liaison for the Ohio Auditor of State’s Office. The recognition is presented to public entities that complete the state’s financial audit with no findings for recovery, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, ethics referrals or public records issues.

“Receiving this award for six straight years is a reflection of our commitment to our residents,” Yeater said. “It ensures our community that the federal and state resources we manage are being used exactly as intended -- to provide safe, affordable and quality housing.”

The Ohio Auditor of State’s Office said the award recognizes public entities that maintain accurate financial records and demonstrate a commitment to efficient, effective and transparent government.

To qualify, an entity must submit its financial reports on time through the state’s Hinkle System and receive an audit free of material findings, questioned costs, ethics concerns and significant deficiencies. Financial statements also must comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

HMHA officials said the string of clean audits reflects the agency’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and accountability while helping ensure it remains eligible for future state and federal funding to support affordable housing programs throughout Harrison County.

The Ohio Auditor of State’s Office conducts audits of more than 6,000 public entities across the state each year.
