High School Roundup: Maroon Knights, Purple Riders Notch Victories

MORGANTOWN -- The Wheeling Central girls soccer squad struck early and often en route to a 10-0 mercy-rule win over Morgantown on Thursday. The Knights (5-1) had built a six-goal lead nine minutes into the contest. Central saw six different players score. Recording a pair of goals were Elah Konkle, Loni Kusic, Elizabeth Steele and Maddie Steele. Meredith Komorowski and Addi Hanson also tallied. OVAC Bill Hinegardner Dual Meet Championship Changes

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – Although boys’ high school wrestling season is nearly four months away, the OVAC has released some changes to the 2027 Bill Hinegardner Dual Meet Championships. The OVAC said in a release that per the coach's committee at the April 2026 meeting, each No. 1 seed, which is based on the results of the underclassmen from the prior year Ron Mauck Tournament, will be offered the opportunity to host their respective division championship. OHSAA Awards $198,000 In Scholarships, Sends More Than $1 Million To Schools

COLUMBUS – The Ohio High School Athletic Association and its six District Athletic Boards have awarded $198,000 to recent high school graduates as part of the OHSAA’s Scholar-Athlete Scholarship Program. In addition, the OHSAA has sent $1,250 to each member high school, a grand total of $1,020,000, to assist with items needed by each school’s athletic department. Wheeling Cardinals Men’s Basketball Set to Return To WVU For Exhibition

WHEELING - For the second consecutive season, country roads will take the Wheeling men's basketball team to Morgantown. WVU released its non-conference schedule on Thursday, including an exhibition game on October 28 in Morgantown against the Cardinals. Last season, the Mountaineers defeated Wheeling 80-54 in an exhibition that marked the beginning of successful seasons for both programs.
