Indian Creek School District levy passes by narrow margin
STEUBENVILLE Renewal of the five-year operating levy for Indian Creek Schools passed by a narrow margin on Tuesday.
A total of 4,991 voters, or 50.19 percent, supported it, while 4,954 voters, or 49.81 percent, were against it.
With a difference of 37 votes between the unofficial totals, Indian Creek school officials will be watching closely the final totals determined after ballots are canvassed. The canvass will come after Nov. 13. Indian Creek Superintendent T.C. Chappelear voiced thanks to those who supported the levy, which generates $3,043,594 per year for day-to-day expenses ranging from textbooks to computers.
Chappelear said, “I want to thank all voters who turned out in support of the passage of our 7.9 mill renewal. This money is an integral part of our operating budget and without it, we would not be able to provide the same level of support and services to our students.
“I believe that our students and staff embody the best elements of public education and continue to make the Indian Creek community proud.”
