THE FREE Lunch With Books program is set for noon Jan. 7 at the Ohio County Public Library. It is titled “OVGH and OVMC memories.”

The recent closing of Wheeling’s historic “City Hospital,” long known as the Ohio Valley General Hospital and finally the Ohio Valley Medical Center, was a painful and emotionally draining event for many people. To help preserve the institution’s legacy, former staff helped secure the OVMC Auxiliary’s scrapbooks, photographs, annual reports, and minute books for donation to the Archives at the Ohio County Public Library. The collection documents the Auxiliary’s mission to educate the community and support the efforts of the hospital it served for over 100 years. The hospital’s board of trustees records (1914-2018) were also donated, as were yearbooks, photographs, and museum artifacts from the hospital’s School of Nursing. At this program, former hospital staff, nursing school alumni, Auxiliary members, and patients are invited to share their memories of the historic hospital and all of its subsidiary organizations.
