Rocky Road dreams
Since the weather has been warming up that usually means we get ice cream cravings in our house — more often than usual anyway.
My husband introduced me to a flavor that somehow I’d never had before — rocky road. It is so good!
It is chocolate, with chocolate covered peanuts, I think, and what seems like squishy marshmallow swirled in it. I don’t usually use words like this, but it was divine.
Ever since I’ve tried it there is no other ice cream I want to eat. I am on a rocky road kick.
I’ve never been that adventurous when it comes to ice cream. When I was a kid my dad liked to get the large plastic buckets to feed the family; it contained three flavors — chocolate, vanilla and strawberry.
Every once in a while we would make banana splits. I still get cravings for those. Normally I would just get one at Dairy Queen, but I think next time I will make them at home.
Splits take a lot of buying ingredients, but we can make a party out of it. Our son Henry is always wanting to have a party of some sort. He wants to make food and invite his family over. We haven’t been able to do that lately because of the coronavirus, but we can have a little one of our own, I guess.
On a sidenote, we opened up our new above-ground swimming pool and Henry has been enjoying it even though the water still is cold. The first day we let his neighbor buddies get in, too, but then I realized they still needed to stay six feet apart even though they were sloshing around in chlorinated water.
So the next day I limited it two kids at a time and they cooperated nicely while taking turns. It was a nice break for Henry as he hasn’t been around any other children for several weeks now because of the virus concerns.
I don’t know about you, but does it seem like this coronavirus stuff is getting harder or easier? I guess I’m like a lot of people; I just wish it would end.
Until it does, grab a bowl of rocky road and a good book to read. You can do that now; the library in Martins Ferry is open again!
