Grave Creek Mound book talk slated at library
MOUNDSVILLE — A spiritual journey into ancient local history is what one will get at the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library book talk at 6:30 p.m. Monday. “Tasach Speaks: Whispers from Grave Creek” by Michael Burk will be presented followed by Q & A with the author. This program is aimed at adults — definitely for the curious and those drawn to mysticism and historical conundrums.
Burk, a retired Marshall County educator, wrote and published “Tasach Speaks: Whispers from Grave Creek” in 2021. He previously released “Grave Creek Tablet Vindication: Risk of Criticism,” based on years of in-depth research using many resources, but in particular the archived collection of Delf Norona’s personal notebooks. Norona recorded all the available data on the Grave Creek Mound. He was the first curator of the museum in Moundsville dedicated to the Mound, one of the most important historical sites in West Virginia.
Burk’s latest work involves a collaborative investigation into the ancient culture of the mound builders, an investigation that ventured into paranormal communications and fresh interpretations of the history and archaeology surrounding the Grave Creek Mound. In presenting his research, Burk will have the assistance of one of the clairvoyant “sensitives” that aided in communications with “spirit guides.”
Unlike previous examinations of the Mound’s history and meaning, this presentation of Tasach Speaks will offer a unique mind-stretching view of the past preserved in our own backyards. It will include coverage of topics related to the knowledge of natural cycles that may have been preserved in earthen features, such as alignments, lookouts, stone towers, octagon representations and more. It will be a fascinating not-to-be-missed program, organizers said.
This free event is open to the public and will take place on the library’s main floor. Copies of the book will be available for sale and signing. The Moundsville Library is located at Fifth and Tomlinson avenues in Moundsville. For more information, call the library at 304-845-6911.
