Art students take part in calendar contest
River High School art students, from left, Madison Alderman, Karson Pfalzgraf, Mara Beard, Gavin Todd, Jake Henry, Hunter Horton and Haylee Deitch pose after taking part in the annual calendar contest sponsored by The Marietta Times newspaper, a sister publication of The Times Leader. This year’s theme was “Fairs and Festivals.” The newspaper received entries from high schools in its six-county service area. Todd’s “4th of July” painting is featured for the month of July. Deitch’s painting “Pumpkin Patch Truck” is featured for the month of October. Pfalzgraf’s drawing of “Day of the Dead” is featured for the month of November. Alderman painted “Masked Female on Day of the Dead.” Beard used black fine point marker to create her “Day of the Dead Celebration.” Horton used colored pencils to create his drawing of “Woodstock.” All seven entries from River HS were featured in this year’s calendar, which is a promotion of the Newspapers In Education program.
