Ramp dinner and dance to be held

MOUNDSVILLE – Grand Vue Park welcomes the public to The Marshall County Ramp Dinner and Dance on May 6, sponsored by USI Insurance.

The event is free to attend and begins at 4 p.m. at the big red barn.

Ramps are known as wild leeks, which are native to West Virginia. They belong to the lily family and are close relatives of the onion and garlic.

Organizers are planning an evening of music and square dancing with the band Deep Down Country and hardy ramp delicacies by South Paw Eatz. Food is first-come, first-served unless you purchase a food ticket in advance. Go to southpawwv.com then “orders” to reserve your meal. On the menu you will find everything from ramp meatloaf to hot dogs with ramp relish. For side dishes Southpaw will have cowboy beans with ramps, cornbread, red potatoes with ramps and more.

Children can enjoy a free pinwheel craft, giant Jenga and other yard games.

Attendees also have the chance to become the first official Marshall County ramp eating champion! There will be a contest with prizes for the top three overall, with first place receiving $100. There is limited registration for the contest.
