Martins Ferry Lions Club plans to host adult prom
MARTINS FERRY — The Martins Ferry Lions Club will host an ’80s-themed adult prom night on from 6-10 p.m. July 8 in the Martins Ferry Recreation Center.
This will be the organization’s first time hosting an adult prom.
“The community showed a lot of interest in the event. I talked to couples who have been married for 30 years and never got to go to prom who are really excited for this event,” Kayla Shreve, president of the Martins Ferry Lions Club, said.
Shreve said Jodi Oberdick, the incoming secretary for the Lions Club, came up with the idea.
Shreve encourages everyone who attends to dress in full ’80s attire, including hair and makeup.
On prom night the Lions Club will provide light snacks, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own beer.
The night will feature D.J. Brad Simms. During the event, a prom king, queen, prince and princess will be crowned.
Those who attend can also get their photo taken by a professional photographer.
Admission is $20 per single and $35 per couple. Those who wish to attend must RSVP by sending the admission cost to the Martins Ferry Lions Club at P.O. Box 71, Martins Ferry, OH 43935 or by calling 740-310-2855. The deadline to RSVP is July 1.
The Martins Ferry Lion Club is a nonprofit volunteer organization. All money raised will go back to the Lions Club for local service projects. The club also makes donations to other nonprofit organizations and annually provides a local high school senior with a scholarship. The organization currently has over 40 members and continues to grow each year, according to Shreve.
The club has also planned more events for later this year. The Lions Club food truck will be participating in Betty Zane Days in the park, and the club has started planning the Ferry Fall Fest for Oct. 14.
