BARTON — The 29th annual Barton Polkafest will be held from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Aug. 6 at Barton Fireman’s Field, rain or shine.

The event is one the largest and oldest festivals of its kind within a 60-mile radius. According to Squad Capt. Jeff Gazdik, the event draws over 2,000 people from surrounding states each year.

The festival will feature food, music, dancing, raffles and vendors.

The event is free, and those who attend can place any donations in a firefighter’s boot at the event.

All donations will support the Barton Fire Department.

Three bands will be providing musical entertainment from noon to 8 p.m. at the event. The DynaBrass, a polka band from Toledo, will perform from noon to 1 p.m., 3-4 p.m. and 6-6:40 p.m.

The Polka Country Musicians have been performing at polka festivals across the nation, and they will be performing from 1-2 p.m., 4-5 p.m. and 6:40-7 p.m.

The Polka Family Band from California will be performing from 2-3 p.m., 5-6 p.m. and 7:20-8 p.m.

They have been nominated for four Grammy awards.

Dancing will take place during all of the performances.

European Folk Art from Pittsburgh will also be on site selling various items directly from Poland including dolls, T-shirts, hand-crafted wooden items, decorative wooden boxes from Poland and Polish pottery.

Polish CDs and recordings will also be available to purchase at the festival.

Food vendors will be selling various types of foods including barbeque chicken, homemade Polish dishes and desserts. St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Barton will be selling nut rolls at the event, and Vino di Piccin Winery in Lansing will be selling wine slushies at a cash bar.

Attendees cannot bring their own alcohol or coolers to the festival.

Polkafest will also feature children’s games and face painting.

Those who attend can also participate in a $1,000 raffle and an auction and have a chance to win door prizes.

Thomas Auto Centers will sponsor the festival.

Fireman’s Field is located at 52176 Barton-Blaine Road in St. Clairsville. Free parking will be available at the site.
