SUNDAY, AUG. 6, guest speaker Pastor Goeff Schultz will be sharing at the 8:15 a.m. traditional service, 9:30 a.m. contemporary service and the 11 a.m. blended service at East Richland Friends Church, 67885 Friends Church Road, St. Clairsville. The public is invited and can join us online at erfriends.com/watch or on Facebook.com/eastrichland. Classes are provided for children from newborn to grade six during the entire morning. FSM Youth (7th-12th) is available at 11 a.m. in the Ickes Family Life Center.
ON AUG. 10, teachers in the Ohio Valley area are invited to the Ohio Valley Mall for Totes of Appreciation. From 5:30-9 p.m., teachers will enjoy refreshments, a “Teach the Teachers” seminar and craft ideas. Most importantly, teachers will receive tote bags filled with goodies, and they’ll be able to load those bags with a plethora of free classroom supplies.
Space is limited. Teachers must sign up through Eventbrite.com and show their school identification to enter the event.
Totes of Appreciation is sponsored by Belmont Savings Bank, with additional help from Boscov’s and the Belmont County Salvation Army.
MARTINS FERRY Knights of Columbus will hold a fish fry at the council home, 25 N. Fourth St., on Friday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. or until the fish is sold out. Eat-in or take-out orders are available. Menu includes Coleman’s fish dinner or sandwich, onion rings, french fries, cole slaw, pop, tea or water. Call early for afternoon orders at 740-633-0528.
ON AUG. 8, Music Under the Stars, an outdoor, free event, will be held from 5-9 p.m. at the St. Clairsville Amphitheater. There will be music throughout the evening plus free hot dogs, food trucks and ice cream (for purchase), games for the whole family, inflatables and face painting for kids, fireworks at dusk and more. Everyone is welcome to join this community event.
ARTSLINK’S 2023 Coffeehouse Series will continue Thursday with the Mountain State Bluegrass Express. The free 6:30 p.m. concert, sponsored by First Mutual Bank, will be held on the performance deck at the Francis Creative Arts Center at the corner of Maple Avenue and Washington Street in downtown New Martinsville. Light refreshments will be served, and attendees should bring a lawn chair. In the event of uncooperative weather, the concert will be moved indoors. UNION LOCAL Soccer is holding a dine to donate event Aug. 7 at Buffalo Wild Wings, St. Clairsville. Whether you eat in or get takeout, you can donate by telling the staff you wish to support the team.
THE WHEELING Police Department, along with several community partners, will take part in National Night Out from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 1 at Wheeling Park’s Ice Rink. This year, National Night Out celebrates its 40th year throughout the country. It is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.
During the two-hour event, Wheeling police will showcase its many units and divisions, including WPD’s Explorer Post No. 1, the Neighborhood Assistance Volunteers/Citizens Police Academy, and the Victim Advocacy Program. Additionally, the department’s K-9 Unit and Drone Unit will offer a brief demonstration. Pizza, popsicles, and drinks will be provided as well as several displays and demos from multiple local community agencies.
THE LAST class of the Half Acre Homesteading series will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Barkcamp State Park Overlook Pavilion. This class will be on Seed Saving. Fred Holub of Holub’s Greenhouse will be teaching about how to properly collect, dry and store seeds from vegetables, herbs and flowers. Holub has decades of experience in saving seeds from his own produce and flowers and is excited to share this knowledge with others. This class is sponsored by Marshall County Co-Op. All participants will receive beginner seed saving supplies courtesy of the sponsor.

COMMUNITY ACTION Commission of Belmont County participates in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Meals will be provided at St. Myer Terrace, 1804 N. Ninth St., Martins Ferry – Lunch from noon to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday until Aug. 4.
THE SECOND annual Reynolds Memorial Hospital Reunion will be held for all former employees of Reynolds Memorial Hospital from 2-6 p.m. Aug. 26 at St. Francis Xavier Hall, 915 Sixth St., Moundsville. This event is open to former and retired employees of RMH, as well as people presently employed at WVU Reynolds Memorial Hospital who began their employment when it was still Reynolds Memorial. Bob’s Lunch will cater the event. Organizers will provide water, coffee and the famous Reynolds Punch, but participants are welcome to bring other drinks with them to the event. Spouses and/or significant others are also welcome to attend. A group picture will be taken at around 3 p.m., a copy of which can be purchased.
Monetary donations are also accepted.
