MARTINS FERRY -- Harry and Fran Sykes celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 7. They were united in marriage in 1957 in Martins Ferry First Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Robert Clark officiating. They have been members of the church for their entire marriage.
Sykes is the son of the late Oscar and Goldie Brown. He is a veteran of the armed forces and spent many years as Scoutmaster of Boy Scout 51 in Martins Ferry, and also served on many scouting committees, including Scoutmaster of a contingent of Scouts attending the National Jamboree in 1981. He retired from American Electric Power, Cardinal Plant in 1991 after more than 37 years of service. His wife, Fran, is the daughter of the late Julius and Anna Vargo Colman. She retired as treasurer of the First Presbyterian Church and also as receptionist for Dr. R.A. Raimonde, both of Martins Ferry.
They have two children, David of South Bend, Ind. and Mary of Baltimore, Md.
They celebrated their anniversary with their children in Baltimore, Md.
