August "Britches" and Anne Zugaro Vehar of Powhatan celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Jan. 31at Shadyside Care Center where they now reside. Vehar was a coal miner for 24 years and after an injury worked at the Powhatan Clinic, retiring after 18 years. He is a UMWA member and former USW member. His wife Anne worked as a grocery clerk at Belmont Grocery in Powhatan operated by her parents, Ben and Domenica Zugaro and her late siblings Sam and Ethel Zugaro.
They have two children and three grandsons: Patsy and husband Gust and son Gussy; and Randy and wife Melissa and sons Christopher and Matthew, who all reside in Canton.
