50th wedding anniversary: Fulton

ST. CLAIRSVILLE -- Robert D. Fulton Sr. and Mary E. Fulton celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Friday, Feb. 22. They were united in marriage Feb. 22, 1958 in Bridgeport, with brother George Rinkes officiating at the ceremony.

Fulton is the son of the late Charles Franklin Fulton and Frances Ruth Edmiston Fulton, formerly of Lafferty. He retired as police chief from Yorkville in 1992 and police and fire dispatcher in Martins Ferry in 2001, after serving more than 35 years in law enforcement. He also worked part time in home construction for nearly 45 years. He served in the United States Navy Reserve for eight years aboard a destroyer escort, the USS Hemminger.

His wife, the former Mary Esther Nice, is the daughter of the late Lester Lindsey Nice and Genevieve Marie Moore Nice of Shadyside. She worked at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Wheeling, and the Park Health Center in St. Clairsville, where she retired from nursing after more than 20 years in the medical field.

They are members of the First Christian Church, where they continue to be active in church functions. Robert has served as deacon and a member of the board of trustees.

They have three children, Robert Jr. and his wife Wanda, Frances Spear and her husband Steve and William and his wife Rebecca, and five granddaughters, Melissa, Stephanie, Chelsea, Jessica and Julie and two grandsons Zachary and Jeff.

The couple celebrated their anniversary with their children.
