NEW ATHENS -- Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Smith are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. They were united in marriage Easter Sunday, March 28, 1948, in Wheeling.
Smith, son of the late Cora Sines, is retired from Consol and with his wife, the former Honnie Johnson, daughter of the late Carl and Margaret Johnson, are members of the New Athens United Methodist Church.
They are parents of four children, Jean (Jim) Stanco of Kidron; Mike (Colleen) Smith of Akron, Ed (Patti) Smith of La Grange, Ky. and Sam (Lee Ann) Smith of New Athens. They have grandchildren Michael (Meghan) Stanco, Stacy (Patrick) Schwarz, Scott (Brandi) Smith, Matthew Smith and fiance Stephanie Yoder, Chad (Mary Beth) Smith, Nikki (Kyle) Shepherd, Craig Smith and Kurt Smith. They also have three great-grandchildren, Paisley Smith, Mia Stanco and Paul Tyler Smith, with a fourth great-grandchild due in early April.
The couple will celebrate with a family gathering in July.
