65th wedding anniversary: Lofton

MARTINS FERRY – Samuel Clinton and Sarah Virginia Lofton will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on Sept. 4. They were united in marriage, Sept. 4, 1943 at the West Bridgeport Methodist Church with the late Rev. John N. Strout officiating.

Lofton, son of the late Benjamin and Elsie Peters Lofton, is an army veteran of World War II and a former milkman and mayor of Bridgeport. He was also a former employee of Ferrell’s Gas Station, a bus driver and school board member of the Bridgeport Schools. His wife, the former Sarah Virginia Mozingo, is the daughter of the late James Lee and Nora Palmer Mozingo. She was reared by her grandparents, the late Friend and Martha Yocum Palmer. She was a former telephone operator at C. & P. Telephone Co. in Wheeling and a cook at the Westbrooke Elementary School in Bridgeport.

They are parents of two sons, Sam and his wife, Della, and Dan and his wife, Rose Ann. They have the following grandchildren: Sam, III and his wife, Vickie, Lori Migyanko and her husband, Steven, Ben and his wife, Kim, and Zack Lofton. Great-grandchildren are: Sam IV, Tyler and Olivia Lofton, Phillip and Anastasia Migyanko and Taylor Lofton. A grandson, Kelly Lee Lofton, passed away Aug. 10, 1989.

An open house celebration will be held on Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Selby Apartment Community Room in Martins Ferry where family and friends are welcome to attend.
