Soult 65th wedding anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. John E. Soult of Martins Ferry will celebrate 65 years of marriage on Wednesday. The late Rev. Paul W.O. Heist officiated their wedding on Sept. 30, 1950, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Martins Ferry, where they are still members.
Soult, a Navy veteran of World War II, was born in Pittsburgh and raised in Elkins by his parents, the late Elwood and Mabel (Coffman) Soult. He is retired from a 30-year career at the Martins Ferry Public Library where he served as former coordinator of, and driver for, the bookmobile program. His wife, Florajean, retired from a 25-year career with Ohio University Eastern library, St. Clairsville, having been recruited by the original dean, Dr. E.R. Bovenizer, when the branch of Ohio University opened its doors as an evening program in 1957 at the old Martins Ferry High School. She is the daughter of the late Herman and Anna (Wodarczek) Blum.
The Soults raised three daughters, Su Sanders of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; Salli Nelson of Columbus; and Barbara Soult at home. They have three grandchildren, Ame Deitz of Martins Ferry and K. Robert and Anna Nelson, both of Florida, as well as great granddaughters Leian Riggs, Tara Dietz, and two great grandson namesakes, Isaiah John P. Dietz of Martins Ferry, and John D. Nelson of Florida.
To celebrate, the couple’s family is hosting a dinner in their honor.
