Phelp 75th wedding anniversary

The Rev. Richard and Dorothy Phelps, former pastor of Shadyside Nazarene Church, celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on Nov. 18.
Richard and Dorothy were both born in Warren, Ohio, delivered by the same doctor. They were introduced by a mutual friend. Richard graduated from Eastern Nazarene College. The Phelps’ were married in Fort Wayne, Ind., in 1941, and spent their married life in the ministry, serving in Nazarene Churches in Atlasburg, Nantyglo and Greenville, Pa., North Pekin, Ill., Hammondsville, Shadyside, Leavittsburg, Calcutta, Toronto and Mineral City, Ohio. After they retired, they moved to Florida and continued to serve at churches in Avon Park, Winter Haven, Melbourne, Orlando and then in Greenville, Miss., and Hickory, N.C.
Richard and Dorothy reside with their daughter Terri (SHS 1975) and Tony Rush, in Vass, N.C.
In addition to Terri, they have two more daughters, Marilyn May and Laura Brown. The couple has nine grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
Richard still enjoys preaching occasionally at Penny Road Nazarene Church in Cary, N.C. Dorothy enjoys crocheting and doing cross stitch needle work.
