MERLE BELL
60th wedding anniversary
Merle and Vangie Bell will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on May 11. The couple was married May 11, 1957, in Martins Ferry. Since then, they have raised four children, watched six grandchildren grow up, celebrated four great-grandchildren and have volunteered in their community. Merle is from Martins Ferry and is the oldest of six boys, while Vangie is from Rayland and is the oldest of 10 children.
Locating to Cambridge in 1968, Merle was a machinist at the The Daily Jeffersonian. He graduated from Martins Ferry High School in 1956 and worked at The Times Leader before going to the Jeffersonian. Vangie was a homemaker and mother to four children. They attended and were active at the Foursquare Gospel Church. Merle retired from Colgate Palmolive and now enjoys the outdoors and working around their log home. He also volunteers to help people in the community.
Vangie volunteered with numerous organizations before providing home health care services. Known for her tea parties, she continues that tradition with the great-grandchildren and she enjoys time with family and friends.
Their four children, Cathy Seeley, Debbie Evans, Cindy Cowgill and Jeff Bell are hosting a cookout to celebrate the couple’s anniversary. Family and friends can help them celebrate from 4-7 p.m. May 13 in Cambridge. Email merleandvangie60@gmail.com or call 740-231-2728 for the party’s location.
