Sally Buffalo Days to feature history, fun

CADIZ — The second annual Harrison County Sally Buffalo Days is fast approaching and list of activities, entertainers and events continues to grow.

Set in the scenic area of Sally Buffalo Park in Cadiz, the two-day bash will be held Sept. 17-18. Most activities will center around the Wallace Lodge area of the park with plenty of parking and shuttles available for those attending. Sponsoring organization include Sally Buffalo Park Board, Harrison County Regional Chamber of Commerce, Cadiz Lions Club, Harrison County Historical Society, and Cadiz Volunteer Fire Department.

A wide variety of concessions will be available along with a  craft show and business expo.

Saturday’s events will begin bright and early with the Cadiz Lions Club pancake breakfast served from 7:30-11 a.m.. At 11 a.m., the Sally Buffalo Park Board will present the second annual Alan Bobot Soup Bean and Cornbread lunch served from the front of the restored log schoolhouse in front of the lodge. The Cadiz Volunteer Fire Department will host a fried fish dinner and the Harrison Central Band Boosters will be selling pizza and hot dogs. Other concessions will also be available through the day.

The Lions Club will also sponsor a car show on Saturday with registration beginning at noon. The fifth annual event will benefit the club’s eyeglass program and the first 40 cars will receive dash plaques. Categories for the show will include Judge’s Choice, People’s Choice and Farthest Driven. Door prizes will be awarded every 30 minutes. Other activities on Saturday will include stage entertainment featuring The Valley Boys from noon-2 p.m., Hoard and Jones from 2:30-4:30 p.m., and Lost Memories from 5-7 p.m.

A historical presentation on one-room and log schools from throughout Harrison County will be presented throughout the afternoon by Sue Adams of the county’s Historical Society. The talks will be made from the porch of the log school.

Also during the day, children of all ages will be able to enjoy fun and games in the form of inflatable rides and old games including a tug of war and a corn-hole tournament sponsored by the Harrison Central Boys Basketball Team.

A paint-n-sip is also being planned with information to be released at a later date.

A children’s pet parade, with cash prizes awarded, will be held at 4:30 p.m. followed by a golf cart parade featuring a theme to be announced. The pet parade will be held in front of the lodge while line-up for the golf cart parade will be at the barn area near the top of the hill on the left side of the lodge with the route circling the large lake and ending back at the lodge for announcement of winners.

On Sunday, another breakfast will kick-off the day at the lodge along with the craft show and business expo. A chicken dinner, sponsored by the park board, will begin at 11:30 a.m. and run until all chickens are sold.

The afternoon activities will include a variety show, featuring music from both individuals and choirs and dance/cheer entertainment, on the stage behind the lodge beginning at noon.

The Harrison Central High School Track teams will host a Kids’ 100-yard Dash at 12:30 p.m. and a 5K walk/run at 1 p.m. For more information on these two events, call the school at 740-942-7700 or email: lturner@hhcsd.org or sarbaugh@hhcsd.org.
