Arbor Day celebrated

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Mayor Kathryn Thalman announced that the annual Arbor Day celebration was held Friday in Central Park.

Thalman presented a proclamation in honor of Arbor Day.

“I am excited that the city of St. Clairsville has maintained for 21 years its status as a Tree City USA, through a program sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation,” Thalman said.

The Rev. Thomas Chillog, St. Mary Church, offered a blessing of the sapling planted during the ceremony.

Brief remarks were offered by city officials and Lola Lewis, regional urban forester with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Forestry Region 6.

Lewis presented to the city the most recent Tree City USA awards.
