OUE Art Gallery to feature Rachel Goodman exhibition

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Ohio University Eastern Art Gallery will feature “Polychromatic,” an exhibition of Rachel Goodman’s paintings, beginning Nov. 1, with an opening reception at 7 p.m. Nov. 4.

“This body of work has been my education and play, “Goodman said. “I set out exploring how color and light interact with form. My exploration led to humility, frustration, and celebration.”

Also, during “Polychromatic Conversation,” Goodman will discuss fine arts in the digital age at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 17 in the Ohio Eastern Art Gallery. This discussion will explore how a graphic design and an illustration background influences an artist’s approach to painting. Topics will include how social media, art software, mass production and digital consumption have impacted the way society views art, as well as the way the artist creates.

“In addition to acquiring a deeper knowledge working within particular mediums, I have learned to discern what I personally enjoy with a successful piece, “Goodman said. “I hope others will see that beauty can be found within the mundane, all it takes is eyes to see and most importantly enjoy.”

Goodman received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Commercial Design and Illustration from Harrington College of Design. She began her professional career in commercial design and illustration, eventually moving into creating fine art as a hobby in hopes to cross the divide from design to fine art.

“My work is heavily influenced by graphic elements such as patterns, shape and line,” Goodman said. “I work in various mediums, “Polychromatic” is primarily oil, acrylic and gouache. I am drawn to florals and foliage, as well as atmosphere changes in the landscapes. I also love modern art, so you’ll see a mix of realism juxtaposed with simplified color and form.”

The exhibition runs through Dec. 2. The Ohio University Eastern Art Gallery is open Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
