Theater to present ‘Little Women’

STEUBENVILLE — Franciscan University of Steubenville’s Anathan Theatre will perform “Little Women” at 7 p.m. Nov. 10, 11, 17 and 18 and at 2 p.m. Nov. 12 and 19.

The play is an adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s novel, “Little Women,” by Kate Hamill and will be performed in Anathan Theatre, ground floor, in Egan Hall.

Directed by Franciscan University theater professor Monica Anderson, Hamill’s humorous and heartfelt play tells the coming-of-age story of Jo March and her sisters. Headstrong Jo March defies the expectations of her society as she strives to become an accomplished writer. Sisters Meg, Beth and Amy also must negotiate their private ambitions with societal expectations as the girls grow up amid the strife of the Civil War.

Hamill’s theatrical adaptation is a touching tale of young people searching for their futures under conditions that demand from them patience, persistence and forgiveness.

Performances are open to the public and will be about two hours long with one intermission. Admission is free for clergy, religious and children under 12. Tickets can be purchased at eventbrite.com/e/little-women-tickets-735481684517?aff=oddtdtcreator.
