Lions Club to support local bars

Photo provided Martins Ferry Lions Club member Kayla Shreve announced that the third annual bar crawl will take place on March 9.

MARTINS FERRY — The Martins Ferry Lions Club is preparing for its third annual bar crawl, which will take place March 9.

“We include all of the local bars and clubs in Martins Ferry. That’s who we support with this event,” club member Kayla Shreve said.

Shreve said the goal of the event is to support local businesses.

“It’s not something that the Lions does to raise any money. We don’t raise money from it. We literally make the ticket price so that each participant gets a beer from each place, each bar, and then we give them money to cover it and then they usually get a T-shirt, but it’s just really fun,” she said.

Registration is open, and 125 paid spots are available.

“That’s all we can comfortably fit in these places without the fire marshal hating us,” Shreve said.

She noted the event usually sells out in about 24 hours, so she encourages anyone interested in the event to act quickly.

“People love this event,” she said. “We just do it for fun just to get everyone out of the winter blues.”

More information about the event, including what local bars and clubs will be included, the cost to participate and details on how to register will be posted to the Martins Ferry Lions Club Facebook page today, Saturday, Jan. 27.

Last year’s event cost $35 per person, which included a drink ticket for each bar, a drink koozie, entry into prize drawings and axe throwing. Participants visited The Axe Hole, the Elks Lodge, American Legion Post 38, The Gold, the Italian American Citizen Club, Last Lap Cafe and Polish National Alliance Lodge 2220 last year.

Shreve said last year’s event was a big success. She also said that the Lions Club is making plans for more community events this year.

“There are a couple of new things this year we have coming on the line. We want to do like this really big mixer for like all of Martins Ferry for all clubs and organizations and have everybody set up a table and invite the public to come and kind of see what each organization is about and if they want to join any of them just to try to get some community involvement going on in this community,” Shreve said.
