Mystery Theatre Unlimited all-new parodies costume dramas

WHEELING — Costume dramas and historical romances are broadly parodied in Mystery Theatre Unlimited’s all-new original musical-comedy murder mystery “Bridgerdon Abbey.”

The dinner theater show will be presented at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at River City Restaurant, 1401 Main St., Wheeling; 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Vue Bar & Grill in Grand Vue Park; and again at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Genesis Event Center, 121 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville, and several other dates and locations.

In the show, the dowager matriarch of an estate in Regency-era Britain must force her daughter to marry a wealthy aristocrat to save her fortunes. She stages a masquerade ball in order to facilitate an engagement announcement, but things begin to go wrong as a stableboy in disguise tries to woo the affections of the daughter, and a servant has her eye on a man far about her life’s station. It all leads up to hilarious complications, several parodies of pop songs and a very silly murder.

The cast includes Renee Storm as Dame Arabella Thistlewhistle, Karissa Martin as her daughter, Penelope, Micah Underwood as head housekeeper Agnes Mooch, Butch Maxwell as Lord Albert Hickenbottom, and Sean Decker as stableboy Rupert Dingle.

Written by Maxwell and Bert Furioli, the show blends broad comedy, farce, musical parodies, and a murder mystery. Some audience members will also play small parts in the show.

Other scheduled performances include Feb. 8 at River City; Feb. 15 at Route 40 LumberJaxe near Belmont; March 8 at the Vue Bar & Grill; and again at River City on March 22.

The ticket price covers an all-you-can-eat buffet and the show. For the shows at River City and the Vue, reservations can be made by calling 304-233-4555. For reservations at Genesis Event Center, call 304-844-9359. For reservations at Route 40 LumberJaxe, call 740-782-1707.
