Buckeye Local presents ‘Beauty and the Beast Jr.’

CONNORVILLE — Buckeye Local Jr./Sr. High School Performing Arts will share a tale as old as time by staging its spring musical, “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Jr.”

The show will be presented at 7 p.m. March 14-16, but elementary students will get a sneak peek during a matinee the morning of March 14. Doors open at 6 p.m., and tickets can be purchased at the door. The Performing Arts Boosters will also hold a spaghetti dinner before the final show at 5 p.m. March 16 in the school commons. The cost includes the meal and a ticket to the play. Those planning to attend that event must RSVP or prepay for the dinner and ticket with checks made in care of BLHS Performing Arts.

Director Charles Eddy said the production follows the award-winning Disney film and features the story of lovely bookworm Belle and her romantic adventure with the cursed prince-turned-beast. Belle resides in a provincial town but encounters Beast, who must learn to love and be loved in order to break the spell and return to his former self. If he does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.

The movie is based on the original Broadway play that ran for more than 13 years and earned nine Tony Award nominations and an Academy Award, plus it includes some of the most popular songs ever written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman with new music from Menken and Tim Rice. The production is presented through Music Theatre International with costumes provided by Stages of Wheeling.

Rounding out the cast are Lizzie Stock as Belle, Aidin Hosenfeld as Beast, Hank Kelley as Gaston, Jonas Eddy as Le Fou, Arielle Orban as Lumiere, Aubrey Hepburn as Cogsworth, McKenna Halicky as Mrs. Potts, Regan Wilson as Madame and La Fille, Jayse Carter as Chip, Sydney Snyder as Babette, Alexis Slie as La Fille and the narrator, Lakin Tanner as La Fille and a milkmaid, Evan Whiting as a bookseller and Monsieur, Reyna Badia as an old beggar woman and enchantress, Charles Chambers as a baker, Veronica Woods as an aristocratic lady and statue, Kaylee Whittaker as lady with a cane, Jaidyn Shrader as lady with a baby and Jenna Jarrell as a candle seller. Among the technical and stage crew members are Raygan Lengyel, John Frank, Rylie McCloud, Nola Toth, Madisyn Smith, Amylia McGee, Kylie Kinney, Jasmine Yohe, Jack Newell, Kirsten Morgan, Emma McFadden, Kylie Watt, Natalie Rager, Samantha Swiger, Cameron Tittle, Gage Edgell, Marissa Pethtel and Nevaeh Gannon.

Eddy added that the boosters will also sell concessions, 50-50 raffle tickets and Stargrams from Bodnar’s Florist each night before and during intermission. All of the proceeds will benefit BLHS Performing Arts. He also gave special thanks to the Wells Township Haunted House for its monetary donation and to 84 Lumber for contributing supplies, as well as the boosters for their hard work.
