A FREE “after-hours” film will be shown Thursday at the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library. The start time will be 6 p.m. – when other library business ends for the day — in the downstairs meeting room. Attendees are encouraged to arrive before 6 p.m. when the library doors are locked. SUNDAY, MARCH 10, Daylight Saving Time Sunday, will feature a special “family” worship service at 10 a.m. in the Ickes Family Life Center, 67880 Friends Church Road, St. Clairsville. The public is invited. Pastor Aaron Szloboda will be sharing on the Gospel of Luke. People can watch online at erfriends.com/watch or on Facebook.com/eastrichland. Nursery care is available for birth to 3 years old. No kids, youth or adult classes will be held.

SHADYSIDE COMMUNITY Band will present a concert of popular instrumental hits from the 1950s through the ’70s on Tuesday. Director Dru Meyer will strike up the band at 6:45 p.m. at the Shadyside Community Center, 50 E. 39th Street, adjacent to the police station. In addition to the band’s music, Millard Neal will set aside his tenor saxophone for a time and play several selections on the piano.

SONS OF Italy will be holding its annual fish fry every Friday during Lent, including Good Friday, March 29. Fish sandwiches will be available along with side dishes, including cabbage and noodles, french fries, onion rings and coleslaw. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

LENTEN FISH frys are being held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Ukrainian Catholic Church, 4136 Jacob St., Wheeling, every Friday during Lent through March 22. OUR LADY of Perpetual Help Church, located at 4136 Jacob St. in Wheeling, is now taking orders for pierogi and cabbage rolls for Easter. The last day to order is March 15. To place an order, call 304-232-1777 or 304-232-2168 and leave your name, phone number and order on the answering machine. Pierogi flavors include potato and cheese, potato and onion, and sauerkraut. They can be ordered by the dozen. Cabbage rolls are sold individually. The last day for pickup is March 21.

BRILLIANT AMERICAN Legion has resumed weekly fish fries for the Lenten season. Fish fry season will run through March 29. The menu includes a choice of Coleman’s fish, chicken planks, shrimp, wing dings or fish nuggets. All of the above can be bought as dinners or smaller portion baskets. Dinners come with bread, french fries and coleslaw. Onion rings can be substituted for an additional $1. Other menu items include french fries, onion rings, hush puppies, mozzarella sticks and hot or mild cheese balls. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Orders can be called in to 740-598-3515. MARTINS FERRY Knights of Columbus will hold a Lenten fish fry at the council home, 25 N. Fourth St., each Friday of Lent from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. or until the fish is sold out. Eat-in or takeout orders are available. Menu includes Coleman’s fish dinner or sandwich, onion rings, french fries, cole slaw, pop, tea, water. Call 740-633-0528 early for afternoon orders.

GRIEFSHARE GRIEF recovery seminar and support care will meet at NewBridge Church, a Vineyard Church, 647 Warden Run Road, Wheeling. GriefShare features nationally recognized experts on grief recovery topics. Sessions include “Is This Normal?”, “Why?” and “The Challenges of Grief.” The sessions begin March 7 and continue until May. THE BELMONT Soil and Water Conservation District will host a series of Half Acre Homesteading classes to teach anyone how to utilize the space and resources available to them to become more self-sustainable. All classes will be held at the Belmont Jefferson Beagle Club, located at 69611 Williams Road, St. Clairsville. There is a registration fee. THE BARNESVILLE Pumpkin Festival Committee is selling pumpkin seeds from past King Pumpkins. Seeds from the 2022 King Pumpkin are $100 each. Last year’s King Pumpkin was grown by Erik Gunstrom of Harrison City, Pennsylvania, and was the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival’s largest pumpkin ever. It set a Pennsylvania state record at 2,405 pounds. Seeds from the 2023 King Pumpkin are $20 each or three for $50. This year’s winner weighed in at 1,950 pounds and was grown by Bill Neptune of New Concord, Ohio. THE OHIO Valley Promenaders hold line dancing lessons at 6 p.m. and square dances and lessons at 7 p.m. every Tuesday at the Bellaire Public Library community room. The group is open to all ages. While many of the Promenaders are seasoned pros, they are always accepting new members. Newcomers can jump in quickly, as square dancing is based on walking to eight counts and the caller leads dancers on what to do. For more information, call 740-676-2136.
