Harshman releases new poetry book
WHEELING — Marc Harshman’s newest poetry collection, “Following the Silence,” has just been published by Press 53, Winston-Salem, N.C.
His previous title, “Woman in Red Anorak” (Lynx House / University of Washington Press) won the Blue Lynx Prize. His 14th children’s book, “Fallingwater: The Building of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Masterpiece,” (co-author, Anna Egan Smucker and illustrated by LeUyen Pham) was published by Roaring Brook / Macmillan and named an Amazon Book of the Month. An earlier poetry collection, “Believe What You Can” (Vandalia/WVU Press), won the Weatherford Award from the Appalachian Studies Association.
He is co-winner of the 2019 Allen Ginsberg Poetry Award, and his poem, “Dispatch from the Mountain State,” was printed in the 2020 Thanksgiving edition of the New York Times. A chapbook, “Dark Hills of Home,” was published by Monongahela Books in 2022 to celebrate his 10th year as Poet Laureate of West Virginia. He was recently commissioned to write a poem to celebrate the 40th anniversary of NPR’s Mountain Stage which was presented by the author at the December shows in Charleston.
