Civil War history in first-person storytelling

JoAnn Dadisman

MOUNDSVILLE — The Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library will have Jo Ann Dadisman presenting a storytelling program at 6 p.m. Monday.

The event will bring some Civil War history to life through the eyes of a West Virginia woman, as recounted by her great-granddaughter, the storyteller Jo Ann Dadisman. This program is aimed at adults and older students.

“Mary Lydia Weaver Sapp: A Daughter and Wife of the Civil War” will give the audience a fascinating glimpse at what life could be like in the 1860s. Mary Lydia was born in Virginia, the first child and daughter of a grain mill owner who was a Confederate sympathizer. After the war, she married a Union Army officer and lived out her adulthood in Preston County, West Virginia. Dadisman’s first-person narrative will both entertain and illuminate the past, a release states.

Dadisman is a versatile active storyteller and retired educator. Her repertoire largely focuses on Appalachia, from mountain heritage and tall tales to true stories and legends.

This event is free and open to the public. It is provided with support from the Robert Baker Family. For more information, call the library at 304-845-6911 or find the library on Facebook. The library is located at 700 Fifth St. in Moundsville.
