‘Over Here’ living history day & 1917 tours happening at the Castle

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Castle will be hosting “Over Here” Living History Day & 1917 Tours at The Castle from 1-4 p.m. April 27.

The Castle is located at 418 Fourth St. in Marietta, Ohio.

Visitors can step back in time to the pivotal year of 1917 in Marietta. The local community is abuzz following the news that America has joined The Great War.

What might this mean for individuals, for friends, family, businesses, social groups … and for the country? A question on everyone’s mind is “What role will I take in the coming days?”

Visit The Castle grounds on April 27 to explore this period through living history.

Immersive tours of the house, by ticketed reservation only, will feature costumed interpreters representing members of the Davis family. The grounds around the house, where interactive educational displays and hands-on activities will represent local individuals of Marietta’s Red Cross and local Ohio National Guard company, are open to all for free.

Activities include:

Interactive Living History Displays and Activities — Admission to the grounds to see the outdoor living history displays and engage with educational activities is free. Activities will be held in the Castle’s Courtyard and Summer Kitchen.

Immersive 1917 House Tours — Living history interpreters taking on the roles of the Davis fam-ily welcome you to an immersive specialized tour of The Castle focused around the events happening locally, nationally, and internationally in the early days of America’s involvement in WWI. Join them to be transported back to April 20, 1917, when renowned singer Margaret Wilson, daughter of President Woodrow Wilson, visited Marietta to give a concert in aid of the American Red Cross. Visitors will witness the family busily preparing for the evening’s events as they learn about the roles the family members will play in upcoming months.

Tours will start on the hour at 1, 2, 3 and 4 p.m. Reservations must be booked in advance – limited spaces are available. Each tour will last approximately 45 minutes.
