Author Don Iannone to discuss new book
The 2024 Presidential Election and Beyond
MARTINS FERRY — Don Iannone, a native of Martins Ferry, author, professor and expert in economic development and public policy, will give a talk about his writing, including his new book on the American Dream and the upcoming presidential election.
The event will take place 1-3 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at the Belmont County District Library in Martins Ferry.
The session will begin with introductory comments followed by an interview conducted by Thomas Flynn, professor emeritus at Ohio University’s Eastern Campus in St. Clairsville. Iannone aims to engage in a meaningful conversation with attendees, sharing insights and experiences from his journey as an author.
Iannone is the author of over 20 books, including nonfiction, poetry, and photography works. His writing is driven by a commitment to advance communities, local economies, and people. He will talk about the power of writing, and he will also provide an exclusive preview of his upcoming book, “America’s Dream at a Crossroads: The 2024 Presidential Election and Beyond.” This book is dedicated to George V. Voinovich, former mayor of Cleveland, governor of Ohio, and U.S. senator. Iannone had the privilege of working closely with Voinovich during the 1980s and 1990s.
In his forthcoming book, Don calls on Americans to make the American Dream a central issue in the upcoming November election. He acknowledges that while some may have lost faith in the American Dream, it remains a crucial symbol of opportunity and the right of every American to pursue a better life through hard work and responsible living. He emphasizes that wealth and prosperity alone are not enough; there must be a broader pursuit of well-being. He urges both presidential candidates, President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, to prioritize the advancement of the American Dream in their campaigns and agendas.
Throughout his career, Iannone has maintained a moderately conservative stance on political and economic issues, working across party lines. His notable contributions include policy and strategy work for four Ohio governors – Richard Celeste, Voinovich, Bob Taft and Ted Strickland. He has testified before Congress and various state legislatures, and delivered numerous talks on economic issues affecting communities, regions, and states. He has led major economic development organizations in Northeast Ohio and directed the economic and environmental centers at Cleveland State University for 15 years.
Currently, Iannone teaches graduate business students at the European-based Transcontinental University. He has authored four nonfiction books and numerous articles and monographs on economic development and public policy issues. He holds a doctorate in philosophy and several other degrees. He resides in Greater Cleveland with his wife, Mary.
