ARTSLINK WILL be present a free concert by WSO on the GO, featuring the Wheeling Symphony Woodwind Quintet at 7 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Lincoln Theater in downtown New Martinsville. OHIO COUNTY Public Library will host a panel discussion regarding services and benefits available to older adults in Ohio County. At noon Thursday in the library’s auditorium, more than 15 panelists, professionals from a variety of businesses, professions and services will be available to answer questions about Medicare, in-home care, home health, assisted living, hospice, documents, jobs/volunteering, free services and more. The library and the Ohio County Adult Services Coalition are partnering to offer this program. Light refreshments will be served. Call the library at 304-232-0244 with any questions.
A FREE film showing will be offered Monday at the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library. The start time will be 6 p.m. in the downstairs meeting room. The feature is “American Fiction.” This 2023 film is rated R (profanity and offensive language throughout) and runs for 117 minutes. Call 304-845-6911 for more information. THE THIRD Annual TBS Chili Cookoff will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 6 at Warren Township Park, 400 Williams St., Tiltonsville. An outdoor church service will be at 11 a.m. Music by Ron Retzer Trio. Bring a lawn chair. There will be games for kids, face painting, photo booth, bake sale, 50/50, $250 gift card raffle and an auction. Children under 5 admitted free. Cost of admission includes samples of all chili and five voting tickets, a hot dog, chips and a bottle of water. Spider-Man will also be on hand from 1-2 p.m. for free pictures. New this year: Flu shots will be available from Walgreens. If applicable, bring your insurance card.
BARNESVILLE ASSUMPTION Church Catholic Women’s Club invites you to its luncheon and dinner during the 60th Pumpkin Festival, Sept. 27-29. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 27-28, the CWC will be holding a luncheon featuring homemade food, a craft and bake sale, a basket raffle with 17 prizes and a 50/50 drawing. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 29, a homestyle-cooked dinner will be served, including roast beef, noodles, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, roll, dessert and a drink. Carryout service is available. Assumption Church also has parking for a fee. Come have a seat in the basement where the festival began and enjoy a bite to eat.
ARTSLINK’S 2024-25 Concert Series Season kicks off with a concert by the Long Point String Band at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at The Parlor Theater at Doolin Center, 253 Main St., in downtown New Martinsville. THE BARNESVILLE Pumpkin Festival Committee is selling pumpkin seeds from past King Pumpkins. Seeds from the 2022 King Pumpkin are $100 each. Last year’s King Pumpkin was grown by Erik Gunstrom of Harrison City, Pennsylvania, and was the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival’s largest pumpkin ever. It set a Pennsylvania state record at 2,405 pounds. Seeds from the 2023 King Pumpkin are $20 each or three for $50. This year’s winner weighed in at 1,950 pounds and was grown by Bill Neptune of New Concord, Ohio. THE OHIO Valley Promenaders hold line dancing lessons at 6 p.m. and square dances and lessons at 7 p.m. every Tuesday at the Bellaire Public Library community room. The group is open to all ages. While many of the Promenaders are seasoned pros, they are always accepting new members. Newcomers can jump in quickly, as square dancing is based on walking to eight counts and the caller leads dancers on what to do in a “learn as you go” fashion.
