New podcast tackles trending health topics

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Listeners can now tune into a new podcast that covers trending health topics in the news.

Trinity Health System started the new podcast Trinity Talks, which will feature its hosts Pete Fernbaugh and co-host Marketing Director Laurie Labishak, when Fernbaugh is not available, along with guest physicians, nurse practitioners and experts. CEO Matt Grimshaw and other members of the administration will appear on the podcast, too. Fernbaugh will interview the experts as they have a conversation.

Labishak believes this podcast is special because Trinity Health is the only hospital in the Ohio Valley doing a podcast right now, she said.

“I truly think what makes it special is that it’s a very natural conversation with the provider,” she said. “It is not scripted at all. So, it is an open conversation with the provider, which really allows for a natural conversation.”

The first episode launched at the beginning of August with the second episode at the beginning of September. A new episode is set to release at the beginning of every month. The episodes will run for five to 15 minutes to keep everyone’s attention and talk about what’s important, Labishak said.

Topics covered will include trends in health news, such as new medication people are using for weight loss, sports medicine, preventing injury and cancer treatment.

“It really covers the full gamut of health,” Labishak said. “We’re really trying to keep an eye on what’s going on in the news right now, so that we can give our experts’ opinions on hot topics in the news right now or health topics, I guess I should say.”

The idea behind the institution creating a podcast comes from podcasts’ popularity right now and how creators are using them to talk about important topics.

“So many people listen to podcasts that we thought it would be a great way to showcase our physicians and our providers as experts in their field,” Labishak said, “and all to bring the human side of our providers to light.”

Labishak said the hospital is trying to bring humanity to the community and because there is a lot going on at a hospital, such as wellness programs and information on how to avoid injury, the staff wanted to start a conversation about it.

The guests featured on the podcast cover the hospital’s entire footprint, Labishak said. They are providers from St. Clairsville to East Liverpool and out to Dennison, Bellaire and Robinson.

Labishak said the goal is to build a catalog of expert physicians talking on enough topics that if someone has a question about a topic and search it on Youtube, they’ll find someone from Trinity Health talking about the topic, which will take some time to build that repository.

“It really gives the community a chance to meet our providers up close and personal, to hear personal stories from them, because they really relate their own personal experiences to what they’re talking about, to whatever the topic is,” Labishak said.

Labishak is excited about the interaction she’s seen from the community about the podcast already with people reaching out and saying they love the podcast.

Listeners can find the podcast on Trinity Health’s Youtube channel, Trinity Health System.

“I really believe that it will help patients meet a physician or provider up close and personal before ever coming to their office or before ever meeting them in the hospital,” Labishak said. “It’ll kind of give them an idea of who the person is on a more personal level than they might see in the office.”
