Local history is Book-Talk topic at Moundsville library
MOUNDSVILLE — Author and educator Christina Fisanick will present her latest book, “Pulling the Thread: Untangling Wheeling History,” at the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
This book talk will cover many fascinating events and stories based on in-depth research into the Ohio Valley’s past. The event is free and open to the public.
In “Pulling the Thread,” Fisanick weaves a narrative through 34 essays on local history. Unexpected connections are made as she covers topics as varied as indigenous peoples, Juneteenth celebrations, Mark Twain’s links to Wheeling and the tie between Oglebay Park and the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. The anniversary of that tragic ship disaster coincides with the timing of this program — when the “gales of November” promise to reveal rare and remarkable tales of Wheeling’s past.
A Wheeling resident who grew up in Moundsville, Fisanick holds a doctorate and is an internationally recognized scholar in digital storytelling, a professor of English for more than 20 years and is the editor or author of more than 30 books and dozens of essays, poems and articles.
Copies of “Pulling the Thread” will be available for purchase and signing following the book talk.
The library is located at 700 Fifth St. at the corner of Tomlinson Avenue in Moundsville. For more information, call 304-845-6911 or find the library on Facebook for the latest library news.
