Adena Lions will present annual cantata on Sunday
ADENA — The Adena Lions Club is excited to announce its annual Christmas cantata, “Appalachian Winter,” to be held Sunday, Dec. 8.
There will be two presentations: one at 2 p.m. at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Adena, 226 Hanna Ave., and another at 7 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, 123 Union St.
Composed by Joseph M. Martin, “Appalachian Winter” is a collection of traditional American Christmas songs. It includes well-known carols like “Away in a Manger” and “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” along with spirituals like “Go, Tell It on the Mountain.” The music and narration together tell a heartfelt story about the Christmas season.
This year’s performance features a 37-person community choir performing in a heartwarming tribute to the Christmas season. Directed by Dustin Kinsey, the cantata will combine music and narration to present a meaningful Christmas message.
“This cantata has quickly become a choir favorite. Join us for an hour of heartfelt music and inspiring messages on Dec. 8 — you won’t want to miss this uplifting experience!” Kinsey said.
Admission to the event is free with open seating available. Attendees are encouraged to give a monetary donation, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the Adena and Dillonvale food pantries. Refreshments will be served following the 7 p.m. presentation.
The Adena Lions Club Christmas Cantata is a 60-minute musical presentation that aims to capture the beauty and wonder of the Christmas message and season. It has been performed since 1986.
