Bellaire organization to collect food for Salvation Army for Christmas season
BELLAIRE — People can donate food To Capes & Tiaras Fantasy Birthday Parties and Banquet Hall this holiday season to help local families have food for Christmas.
Capes & Tiaras is having a Christmas food drive from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday and again from 3-6 p.m. Tuesday.
People can bring non-perishable foods, such as canned vegetables, pasta and soup to Capes & Tiaras Fantasy Birthday Parties and Banquet Hall at 527 44th St. in Bellaire.
Tricia Goode from Capes & Tiaras had a Thanksgiving food drive this year as well and said it went very well. She donated the food to where she thought it was needed most, including the House of Carpenter in Wheeling and the YMCA because they have programs that offer help to people in need.
She will donate the food collected Monday and Tuesday to the Salvation Army of Bellaire because her organization tries to help out all charities in the Ohio Valley and spread around the donations.
Goode grew up in a family that had to struggle sometimes, and she said she can relate to a lot of people in the Ohio Valley who have to do the same. So she is collecting food for families to keep them from being hungry.
Goode has been involved with many donations and collections in the past, including Ignite Hope that supports child welfare in families, churches, communities and government. It raised money for the Upper Ohio Valley Sexual Assault Help Center and the YMCA. The organization will be raising money for Harmony House Children’s Advocacy Center on Jan. 18. Goode has also been involved in many food drives and a toy drive.
“I just think helping out your community and the people that live around you, it’s the right thing to do,” she said. “If there was more love spread like that, the world would be a better place.”
Goode puts on the food drives because she likes to see the smiles and hugs that come from the effort.
“It brings me more joy than anything,” she said. “I don’t even need it. I don’t even like to get the credit for it. I just like to do it.”
